Optu, Latin for “the best” or “optimum”, is a best of the best left bank Bordeaux style blend. This blend has served as our flagship at Fidélitas since our first vintage in 2000. Our winemaking team flags specific barrels while tasting through some of our most premium blocks, saving a couple here and there, destined for this reserve blend showcasing the finest juice of the vintage. On the aroma we get Bing cherry, black berry, and vanilla bean. The palate is rich and ripe with loads of red and black fruit — strawberry, bluebuerry, and black currant. This is a well-balanced blend and a very versatile food pairing wine.

BLEND: 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, 7% Cabernet Franc

VINEYARDS: 43% Klipsun Vineyard, 27% The Canyons Vineyard, 16% Shaw Vineyard, 10% Quintessence Vineyard, 4% Fidélitas Estate Vineyard

AGING: 18 months, 33% New French Oak, 10% New American Oak

ALCOHOL: 14.2%

94 points - Owen Bargreen - This is one of the first Fidelitas wines that I tasted back in 2007. This 2021 ‘Optu’ combines 66% Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller portions Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Stored in 33% new French oak, this offers black licorice and black tea on the nose alongside anise. The palate is soft and refined with a ripe mouthfeel. The sense of balance is beautiful here. Drink 2024-2040.
